Get caught up on your stories for the March issue ASAP. Everything should be finished by Friday. Worknight is March 11.

The room will be closed at lunch today, Thursday and Friday. Sorry for the inconvenience.

News and Notes: 2.18.11

Happy Vacation! Get some rest over the next week. We will have less than a month to finish the book when we return! Worknight is March 11. Everyone is expected to be there.

Join me in congratulating next year's Editorial Board for the yearbook: Rachel Choi, Domonique Jones, Angelica Patricio and Nicholas Weller. Yes, they are the editors-in-chief together.

We need fundraising ideas that are cheap for us. In other words, something that can help us make money for yearbook, but doesn't cost us much out of pocket to get it going. All ideas are welcome. See Wojo, Cathie or Joyce if you have an idea. One that we're currently discussing is a raffle ticket that students would buy to get their yearbook before everyone else. This doesn't cost us anything out of pocket. We just deliver the book they already purchased a little early.

Scholastic Journalism Week Activities:

Friday: Journalism Potluck. Bring your favorite journalism-related dish to share with the class. Include a card with your dish to explain how it is related to journalism. For example, you could have Katie Couric Baby Carrots. Katie Couric was the first solo female news anchor for an evening newscast on one of the major networks.Be sure to include the explanation. You get points. If you don't want to bring food, you could bring cups, plates, forks, spoons and napkins. Just make sure they are journalism related!

Project: This is an individual assignment. It will be on paper (8 1/2x11 or 11x17). If you have a Glogster account, you may make your poster in Glogster, then print. InDesign is encouraged as your design platform. The assignment: Read "The Seven Deadly Sins of Student Writers." Pick one of the "deadly sins" and make a poster to help students remember not to commit that sin in their writing. The use of humor is encouraged (think a la The Oatmeal, but appropriate for the classroom).  Yes, the instructions are deliberately loose. I want you to be creative in helping your classmates become better writers. Due date: TODAY no later than 1:15 p.m.

For those of you who are working on pages, worknight is optional, but encouraged this Friday!
